UK carrier EE has turned on Visual Voicemail for iPhone 5 owners. Visual Voicemail allows people to treat voicemail like an email inbox, instead having to call a carrier’s number and respond to prompts. With EE, though, the option is only available to iPhone 5 owners subscribed to a 4GEE plan. Data consumed by voicemail doesn’t count against any caps.
New iPhone 5 buyers at EE can get Visual Voicemail activated in-store or online. Existing owners must text “iPhone visual” to 150, which should get the feature activated within about 24 hours. An “iPhone visual off” text can be sent to revert the change.
EE is the result of a partnership between Orange and T-Mobile, and is just the second iPhone carrier in the UK to support Visual Voicemail after O2. Some Orange customers say they have been able to get Visual Voicemail on plans costing at least £36 per month using the same texting procedure. T-Mobile customers may have to be migrated over to the Orange voicemail system, which could create delays
