Nintendo is launching a new Wii U console bundle aimed at the “core” video game player. The Deluxe Set will include a copy of the Ubisoft thriller ZombiU and Wii U Pro Controller. There’s also bonus content tied to ZombiU, including an art book and developer commentary. The Deluxe console features a 32 GB hard drive and charging cradle for the GamePad controller. Consumers will also get a digital copy of the mini-game compilation Nintendo Land. Nintendo will release the bundle on Feb. 17 for $390.
Since launching last November, Nintendo has sold 3 million Wii U consoles worldwide. However, that’s behind the pace of the Wii, selling 3.19 million during the third quarter of Nintendo’s 2006 fiscal year, which includes the first two months the Wii was available. Nintendo’s push toward attracting the traditional video game player comes as its rivals — Microsoft and Sony — are poised to announce successors to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 respectively.
Although Microsoft has yet to make a formal announcement, the company is expected to unveil plans for their next video game console. Meanwhile, Sony is hosting a Feb. 20 PlayStation event where they will likely reveal their latest hardware.
