Pulse Electronics today announced a new near-field communication (NFC) antenna for mobile devices that is made of ferrite and measures 40% thinner than comparable NFC antennas.
According to Pulse, its new antenna measures 0.185mm thick in a package that measures 35 x 50cm. It can be used near batteries and metal frames while still meeting the EMVCo 40mm specifications for compatibility with chip-based payment cards and readers worldwide. Pulse believes this new design will make it easier for handset manufacturers to incorporate NFC antennas and radios into their phones.
The antenna will be available to OEMs later this year.
