Steven Spielberg will be turning Stanley Kubrick’s “Napoleon” into a miniseries, the director told Canal+.
“I’ve been developing Stanley Kubrick’s screenplay for a miniseries, not for a motion picture, about the life of Napoleon,” Spielberg said. “Kubrick wrote the script in 1961, long time ago. And the Kubrick family, because we made ‘A.I.’ together, the Kubrick family and I, the next project we are working on, the miniseries is going to be Napoleon.”
Kubrick (2001: A Space Odyssey) did extensive research on the life of Napoleon for two years. A feature film was well into pre-production when the studio pulled the plug and cancelled the project.
A 1969 draft of Kubrick’s script is available online for download.
