Although her singing voice won’t be gracing the opening title sequence of the latest James Bond adventure, SPECTRE, Skyfall theme song performer Adele today released her latest music videoand it has its own connection to cinema history. The Hello video, which you can watch in the player below, is the first music video ever to be filmed using IMAX cameras.
The Hello video was directed and edited by Xavier Dolan. Dolan’s big screen credits include films like Mommy and the upcoming It’s Only the End of the World. The latter stars Vincent Cassel, Marion Cotillard, Nathalie Baye, Gaspard Ulliel and SPECTRE Bond girl Lea Seydoux. Dolan leveraged IMAX cameras to film portions of the Hello video. The IMAX cameras offer the highest resolution film cameras in the world, capturing images at up to 18K resolution. That’s about 100x the resolution as a home HDTV.
The cameras used for Adele’s Hello video have been featured on films like Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, Francis Lawrence’s Hunger Games: Catching Fire and J.J. Abrams’ highly-anticipated upcoming blockbuster, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
In addition to Adele, the Hello video features actor Tristan Wilds. Wilds is best known for playing young Michael Lee on HBO’s “The Wire” and for his portrayal of Dixon Wilson on the recent reboot of 90201. On the big screen, Wilds has appeared in films like Anthony Hemingway’s Red Tails and Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Secret Life of Bees.
