AMD on Tuesday revealed updates to its A-series desktop and notebook Fusion processors. The flagship dual-core and quad-core chips get speed boosts, and users can for the first time overclock the x86 and graphics settings on unlocked models. All the chips also get the AMD Steady Video feature, which is meant to get rid of the shakes and jitters in home videos.
There are five new desktop-oriented A-series processors, including the unlocked, quad-core A8-3870K rated at 3GHz and with 400 Radeon cores, while the unlocked 600MHz GPU has 4MB of L2 cache. It has a 100W peak power draw. The A8-3820 is also quad-core, but rated at 2.5GHz and with a 2.8GHz Turbo core. Its thermal envelope is 65W, and there are also 400 Radeon cores and a 4MB L2 cache.
The quad-core, 2.7GHz A6-3670K is unlocked and rated at 100W of peak power draw with its 320 Radeon cores and a 600MHz unlocked GPU base and 4 MB L2 cache. The A6-3620 has four cores, a 2.2GHz CPU and 2.5GHz Turbo mode and a 65W draw, along with 320 Radeon cores and 4MB of L3 cache. Finally, the dual-core A6-3620 has a 2.8GHz clock speed, 65W peak draw, 160 Radeon cores and 1MB of L2 cache.
There are eight new notebook APUs. The A8-3550MX and A8-3520M both get four cores, 400 Radeon cores and 4MB of L2 cache but the former is rated at 2GHz (2.7Ghz in Turbo) and has a 45W draw while the latter is 1.6GHz (2.5GHZ Turbo) and has a 35W maximum draw. The A6-3430MX and A6-3420M share four cores, 320 Radeon cores and 4MB of L2 cache, with the former sporting a 1.7GHz CPU (2.4 in Turbo mode) and a 45W peak, with the latter’s CPU rated at 1.5 GHz (2.4GHz Turbo Core) and a 35W draw maximum.
Next up, the A4-3330MX and A4-3320M each have two-core CPU cores, 2MB of L2 cache and 240 Radeon cores. The MX has a 2.2GHz clock speed (and 2.6GHz Turbo rating) and a 45W peak with the M getting 2GHz (2.6GHz in Turbo) and a 35W draw.
The final two new chips differ only in clock speeds as part of their major specs. They both have dual CPU cores, 160 Radeon cores, 1MB of L2 cache and 35W peaks. The A4-3305M is a 1.9GHz clock speed that goes to 2.5GHz in turbo mode, while the E2-3000M gets a 1.8GHz clock speed and 2.4GHz in turbo mode.
The second-generation chips will being arriving in notebooks and desktops over the next few weeks.
