Sony is estimated to have sold 321,400 PS Vita handheld gaming consoles on its hyped launch in Japan in just two days. Research firm Enterbrain, which arrived at the figure, said that despite the strength of the launch, this actually fell short of the mark achieved by the Nintendo 3DS. In the first two days after it went on sale, Nintendo shifted 371,000 3DS consoles by comparison.
However, after the strong initial success of the Nintendo 3DS, a lack of must-have launch titles quickly saw sales momentum stall and resulted in a Nintendo slashing the price of its console from $250 to $170 just six months after its launch. Sony has learnt from Nintendo’s misstep and has ensured that it has some stellar titles on hand including the next installment of the hugely popular Uncharted franchise. In total, Sony has managed to work with its developers to get 24 titles on the shelves alongside the launch of its next-gen portable.
