Passengers of Southwest Airlines will soon be offered access to Beats Music during their flight, as an alternative to in-flight radio and other entertainment options. The airline will be providing music via the streaming service on its Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft starting from today, with passengers able to access a personalized playlist to listen to throughout their flight at no extra charge.
Hundreds of predefined playlists will be available to listen to, though it will also include playlists created via Beats’ The Sentence function, which creates a playlist based on four questions, revolving around locations, activities, surroundings, and musical preferences. The service will be accessible using mobile devices through the in-flight Wi-Fi system, and though it uses the Beats app on iOS and Android, a browser-based version will also be available for other devices.
To promote the new addition, one of the airline’s Boeing 737 aircraft has been decorated with Beats headphones. Two special flights are also taking place, with Cobra Starship and Elephant Revival holding concerts mid-flight for onboard passengers, while other flights will include special playlists for streaming the concerts.
SWA, also offers access to on-demand shows and live-streaming channels to passengers over Wi-Fi, thanks to its deal with Dish.
