Nintendo started off the week by adding a fifth color to the 3DS. It now comes in a Midnight Purple along with the existing black, blue, pink, and red. The color doesn’t have a special bundle attached.
Stores should start carrying the purple console on May 20. The price will stay the same $170 as it is for existing versions.
Such a launch comes weeks before E3 and follows a practice of console makers like Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony introducing minor hardware additions or changes in the run-up to the Los Angeles show. Nintendo’s main highlight this year will be the finished version of the Wii U and likely has it wanting to create a news gap.
