Last Man Standing remains standing. ABC Friday renewed the Tim Allen comedy, which will return for its sixth season. Man had been considered a “bubble show” whose future was uncertain. At the same time, ABC also ordered a new comedy, Speechless, which stars Minnie Driver (About a Boy, Good Will Hunting).
Driver plays Maya DiMeo, “a mom on a mission who will do anything for her husband Jimmy, her kids Ray, Dylan, and JJ, her eldest son with special needs. As Maya fights injustices both real and imagined, the family works to make a new home for themselves, and searches for just the right person to give JJ his ‘voice,’ ” according to the show’s description.
With the moves, ABC has concluded its pickups, renewals and cancellations for the 2016-17 season in advance of the broadcast network presentations to advertisers next week in New York.
