Acrylic Software has released Pulp for Mac 2.0 — though calling it an update, it is being treated as a new app on the Mac, ported from the iPad app Times (which itself was a version of the original Mac RSS newsreader Times), and which now changes its name to Pulp for iPad. Both apps are RSS readers with a stylish presentation — they display feeds in a newspaper-esque layout, with multiple stories or feeds on a page for quickly digesting headlines, photos and story previews.
Users can assign feeds to columns, modify the page layouts and adjust styles and rules. One tap on a feed preview brings up a full story in a easily-read presentation. The app will save articles of interest to a shelf and can share with Facebook, Twitter, Instapaper, Read it Later and Readability.
The new Mac version can sync pages, feeds and read status with a user’s Pulp for iPad app, which is also updated today — to version 1.3 — with the new sync capability. Syncing requires a user to have a free Pulp Sync account.
The iPad update further brings Readability support, improved feed searches and bugfixes. It also displays the number of new feed updates on the app’s home screen badge.
Pulp for Mac 2.0 requires Mac OS X 10.6.6 and is $20 on the Mac App Store, with a $10 introductory price offered for a limited time. Pulp for iPad 1.3 requires iOS 4.3 and runs on the iPad only. It is available for $5 on the iTunes App Store.
