Despite being available for pre-order at major retailers, Bungie’s recently revealed Destiny isn’t going to launch in this calendar year. An Activision Blizzard press release sent out today noted: “Activision has not included [Destiny’s] launch in its 2013 outlook and there should be no speculation or expectation of a different result.”
Sadly this not a date game with calendar year versus fiscal year, Activision Blizzard is one of the few companies that has its fiscal year in synch with little blue planet’s trip around the ball of fire we called the sun.
The 2010 contract between Activision and Bungie regarding Destiny tentatively scheduled four retail games for the fall of 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019. There are also four “comet releases” planned for the years between, which are speculated to be substantial add-ons to the prior year’s offerings.
