Alias and Once Upon a Time vet Merrin Dungey has landed a supporting role in Conviction, ABC’s legal drama pilot starring Agent Carter‘s Hayley Atwell.
The potential series revolves around a young attorney (Atwell), who is blackmailed into taking a job as the head of Los Angeles’ newly created Conviction Integrity Unit. With her team, she examines cases where there’s credible suspicion that the wrong person may have been convicted of a crime.
Dungey will play Maxine, a former NYPD detective and the unit’s lead investigator, who finds her loyalty to the badge tested as she delves into her former colleagues’ cases.
The cast also includes Shawn Ashmore (The Following), Emily Kinney (The Walking Dead) and Manny Montana (Graceland).
Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper will executive-produce the pilot with co-creators Liz Friedman and Liz Friedlander. Friedman wrote the pilot, and Friedlander will direct.
Dungey — whose sister, Channing, was recently named ABC’s entertainment president — recently appeared on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Chasing Life.
