LG has announced it will definitely upgrade its Optimus line of phones to Android 2.3.. Every Optimus One variant, including the Optimus S, T, U and the Vortex, will get an upgrade to 2.3. Timing isn’t set and will be detailed by region in “due course,” LG said.
The company also apologized for its earlier denial, where it incorrectly argued that none of its Optimus phones could handle Android 2.3 due to requirements. “We sincerely apologize for the confusion and misunderstanding that was caused regarding this issue,” LG wrote.
Google doesn’t have a minimum hardware requirement and has promised that Android 2.3 can sometimes be faster on the same hardware. The new code uses memory and processor power more efficiently than Android 2.2.
