The Amazon Locker package delivery system appears to be going into wider release, as new units have begun popping up in locales outside of the original pilot cities of Seattle, New York, and London. The alternative delivery method has reportedly seen only light usage, but Amazon appears to be set on moving forward with the project. The service now has a dedicated FAQ page on Amazon’s site.
Tech blog Zatz Not Funny! carries reports of the lockers appearing in 7-Eleven stores in the northern Virginia suburbs outside of Washington, DC. The lockers sport a new paint job: an orange background with Amazon’s logo emblazoned across the front in white. Currently, Amazon’s site lists four 7-Eleven locker locations in the Northern Virginia area.
The DC-area launch appears to be a soft launch of the service, as Amazon’s site lists only Seattle, New York, and London as supported regions. The company has provided no further information on a possible wider roll-out of the delivery system
