AMC is looking to do that as they’ve announced that the previously mentioned spin-off to The Walking Dead has been greenlit for a pilot according to Deadline. The executive producers from the main show, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert and Robert Kirkman, will be joined by Dave Erickson (Marco Polo) for this new series, with Erickson acting as showrunner and co-writer/creator of the new series.
“There are many corners of The Walking Dead universe that remain unseen in the shadows,” Kirkman told Deadline. “Being given the opportunity to shine a light into those corners and see what lurks out there is an absolute thrill.”
When this spin-off was first discussed, Kirkman said that the project was interesting to him for the opportunity to write something complete unconnected from the storyline of The Walking Dead comic series. At Amazing Arizona Comicon Kirkman said he sees this second The Walking Deadseries as a “companion series” to the first rather than a “spin-off,” noting that none of the characters from the first series are “spinning off” into the new series.
“So I can say that it will be another group of characters, surviving in another part of the world. And it’s not going to use any of the core cast from our show. The show will continue uninterrupted, as if the other show doesn’t exist. But the other show will kind of be its own entity.”
