AMD announced its high-end, multi-core Threadripper CPUs in May, and today the company is finally giving some solid details as to what we can expect from the new chips, along with pricing and release information.
The Threadripper line will launch two chips. The $799 Ryzen Threadripper 1920X, with 12 cores / 24 threads and a 3.5GHz base speed that can boost to 4.0GHz. That is $400 less than Intel’s Core i9-7920X ($1,199). The top-tier $999 Ryzen Threadripper 1950X sports 16 cores / 32 threads clocked at 3.4GHz with boosted speeds up to 4.0GHz. It is $700 less than i9-7960X ( $1,699) from Intel.
AMD will continue the Ryzen model of having both Threadripper SKUs unlocked so buyers can overclock the, if they want to.
The Threadripper chips — along with some new motherboards that support the high-end processors — will be available in early August.
