The future of American Horror Story has been in the shadows after the Cult season ended.  We did  get hint from creator Ryan Murphy that the next season would take place a year-and-a-half in the future. Now, Murphy has announced via Twitter that the long-hyped crossover between Murder House and Cover will actually be this season of the series instead of the ninth season.

“The Coven/Murder House AHS crossover season won’t be happening next year…because it’s happening THIS YEAR,” Murphy tweeted. “AHS #8 WITCHES RULE THIS SEPTEMBER”

Murphy’s announcement also revealed that the eighth season of the acclaimed anthology series will debut in September, which is the same month that both Roanoke and Cult premiered instead of the typical October release that the rest of the series has premiered in.

It was previously announced most of the returning cast members would come back for the eighth season, including Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Adina Porter, Cheyenne Jackson, Billy Eichner, Leslie Grossman and Billie Lourd, as well as franchise newcomer Joan Collins. It remains to be seen how actors like Paulson or Peters will factor into the crossover, having played two different characters in both seasons.

The announcement for the crossover season comes just in time for filming, which Murphy previously revealed will begin shooting sometime around June 16.

The American Horror Story franchise has received 28 Emmy nominations and four wins over its previous six seasons. It is produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television.

American Horror Story was renewed for two more seasons back in January of 2017.
