Google may unintentionally follow Apple with a key feature in Android 4.0, better known as Ice Cream Sandwich. A set of icons spotted on Saturday by Android Police are believed to be for editing in the Gallery app and go slightly beyond what such apps offer. Along with basic cropping and automatic fixes, it should have exposure compensation, sharpening, color modification, and “artistic” effects filters.
The filters would include everything from basic correction to Instagram-style changes, such as a Lomo-like shot and cross-processing. One suggests that phone owners could draw on photos for notes or for fun.
Google has been hoping to spark interest in Android 4, saying during its latest results call that early adopters would be impressed by what it would have. The OS and a new Nexus phone are expected to show together at Samsung’s October 19 event. Among the changes should include visual multitasking and other elements borrowed from Android 3 tablets as well as an iPhone-style app tray.
Photography could be a major focus of both the OS and the phone with talk of a fast five-megapixel camera as a possible selling point.
