Hugo Barra, Google’s vice president of product management for Android, has resigned from the company, according to a report from AllThingsD.
Barra, who has been with Google since 2008, is one of a handful of public faces behind the Android team and often appeared at press events. Barra has accepted a position with Xiaomi, a Chinese handset maker, where he will be vice president of the company’s new global push. Barra confirmed his departure from Google on his Google+ page. Barra’s departure follows that of Andy Rubin, the long-time Android head, who stepped down from his leadership role earlier this year to pursue other projects within Google.
Sundar Pichai currently leads the Android and Chrome teams at Google.
