The number of apps in the Android Market should surpass those in the App Store as soon as August, argues research2guidance, a German research group. The date assumes that current growth rates for both the Market and the App Store will be maintained. In April for instance some 28,000 apps were uploaded to the Android Market, while Apple accepted just 11,000 new titles into the App Store.
The R2G forecast calls for the Market to achieve 425,000 total apps at the crossover point. The firm is not the first to predict that the Market will overtake the App Store by the end of the year; Distimo has suggested the flip will happen in about five months, sometime around September or October.
