Anika Noni Rose (Bates Motel, Power) has been cast in the upcoming thriller Assassination Nation, according to Variety. She’ll play the mother of the characters portrayed by R&B musician ABRA and Suki Waterhouse (The Bad Batch, Billionaire Boys Club). The cast also includes Bella Thorne (The Duff, Blended), Maude Apatow (Knocked Up, This is 40), Bill Skarsgard (Simple Simon, Hemlock Grove), Joel McHale (Community, Ted), Colman Domingo (Lincoln, Selma), Odessa Young (The Daughter) and Hari Nef (Amazon’s Transparent).
Assassination Nation follows four teenage girls in a small suburb who become the focus of unwanted, world-wide media attention after their personal information is leaked by an anonymous hacker. Anika Noni Rose will reportedly play “an attractive woman with terrible taste in men, who has an unfortunate reputation in the conservative town of Salem. When the mysterious hacker outs her for her various affairs with the town’s married men, she faces scorn, public ridicule and downright abuse from the outraged citizenry.”
The film, written and directed by Sam Levinson, will be produced by Foxtail Entertainment, Phantom Four and Bron Studios, in association with Creative Wealth Media.
Producing Assassination Nation are Foxtail Entertainment’s Matthew Malek (Silence) and Anita Gou (To the Bone), Phantom Four’s David Goyer (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) and Kevin Turen (99 Homes, Arbitrage) and Bron Studios‘ Aaron L. Gilbert (Fences, Birth of a Nation). Creative Wealth Media’s Jason Cloth and Andy Pollack are serving as executive producers.
The Tony Award-winning Rose is known for her work as the voice of Tiana in Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, Dreamgirls, the voice of Kuasa in Vixen and The Good Wife.
