Apple has again released an update for the firmware of its Apple TV device, re-releasing v4.4.1, which was pulled on Monday after users reported serious problems with their devices after installing the update. The new version has fixed the issue, and now does what the original v4.4.1 was supposed to do — resolve an issue present in v4.4 that caused some Apple TVs to be connected to iTunes in order to update.
The v4.4 and v4.4.1 updates for Apple TV, like iOS 5 for mobile devices, severs the need to connect the device to iTunes in order to receive and implement updates, but only after it is applied. The v4.4 update brought support for AirPlay mirroring and Photostream to Apple TV, along with new apps such as a revamped Trailers, NHL live broadcasts and Wall Street Journal videos.
