Apple has revealed plans for the end of MobileMe, which is being phased out in favor of iCloud. The company is no longer taking new MobileMe subscribers or offering upgrades, and anyone who does have a subscription will only have service through June 30th, 2012. MobileMe would normally cost $99 a year; any current users, however, are getting their subscriptions extended to the deadline for free.
People who have an unused MobileMe activation code from a boxed copy can request a refund. After the transition, Apple notes that all of a person’s mail, contacts and calendars will be migrated to iCloud. Users will be able to retain any me.com or mac.com email addresses.
In spite of MobileMe’s end, Apple has updated the connected Find My iPhone app to v1.2. If a device is offline when trying to locate it, app users will now get an email when it shows up. In parallel, the app can remove an offline device from its list.
