Apple has released an update for the second-generation Apple TV, bringing the set-top’s firmware up to v4.4.1. Unlike the v4.4 release, the new code only implements bugfixes. Specifically Apple notes that it solves a problem which forced some Apple TVs to be connected to iTunes in order to download v4.4.
The v4.4.1 firmware appears to have been initially pushed out on Monday, but then quickly pulled. The software was apparently premature, as it was rendering some devices useless.
The v4.4 update came in parallel with iOS 5 and iCloud, introducing support for related features like AirPlay mirroring and Photo Stream. It also incorporated new apps, including Trailers and ones for NHL and Wall Street Journal Live broadcasts.
