In addition to a plethora of new products and updates, Apple included a software update for users who will be sticking with Mountain Lion for a while longer — an updated Safari for Mountain Lion to match the one that comes with Mavericks. Safari version 6.1 offers many of the same features, including Shared Links support, a revamped Sidebar, Safari Power Saver to increase battery efficiency and more — though some features will be reserved for Mavericks only.
A feature that is sure to be popular with privacy-conscious users is the automatic third-party data/tracking blocking. By default, Safari 6.1 will block third-party websites from leaving cookies and other types of data that could be used to track the user’s browsing.
Also included is One-Click Bookmarking, which users can do by click-and-holding on the plus symbol just to the left of the Smart Search , which will add the URL to the Favorites Bar or the regular Bookmarks list. A simple click on the plus instead of a click-and-hold will instead add the URL to a users’ Reading List.
The Shared Links feature allows users to easily see other sites their friends on Twitter and Linked In have linked to. Finally, Apple has added Russian search engine Yandex as an option for Russian users.
The update can be obtained by opening Software Update on a Mac running Mountain Lion. Safari v6.1 is included if users have updated to Mavericks, which is now out and free of charge.
