Android device manufacturer Archos has refreshed its Archos Gamepad — the new and uprated Archos GamePad 2 is expected at the end of the year. The new iteration of the device features Android 4.2 “Jelly Bean”, a HD screen, better controls, a larger battery, and a faster processor.

The Archos GamePad 2 features a 7-inch IPS screen running at 1280×800. The gaming handheld has been upgraded to the A9 quad-core processor running at 1.6GHz versus a dual-core 1.6Ghz processor in the original model, with 2GB of system RAM. Two storage sizes will be available: 8GB and 16GB. Storage expansion capability is prodded by a SD slot, with up to 64GB addressable. HDMI, Wi-Fi, and a front camera are all standard on the device.

The ARCHOS GamePad 2 features more precise dual thumb-sticks, double buttons on each shoulder, a single-piece D-pad and an improved button tactile response for a better physical gaming experience.

Also upgraded is Archos’ Game Mapping Tool that lets users map any touch-screen button game to work with the physical controls. The GamePad Game Zone application curates one million apps and games in the Google Play store to enhance visibility of GamePad 2-compatible games.

The ARCHOS GamePad2 will be available at the end of October for €180 ($243) on the Archos website.
