Android-powered device maker Archos has just kicked off a new Elements series of tablets with the 97 Carbon. It uses Android 4.0 and uses a 9.7-inch, 1024×768 IPS touchscreen paired with a 1GHz CPU and 1GB of RAM. There is 16GB of storage space onboard, though a microSD memory card slot lets users expand that.

Otherwise, owners will find an HDMI output, a full-sized USB port, and both a 0.3-megapixel front- and 2.0-megapixel rear-facing camera. The tablet’s aluminum body is about 0.45 inches thick and weighs 21.8 ounces.

Preloaded software includes OfficeSuite Viewer, a demo of World of Goo, Angry Birds, News Republic, and Brief Me.

The 97 Carbon is priced at between $230 and $250, though depending on what isn’t clear. The first one is coming later this month, but more are coming, sized at 7 and 8 inches.
