Starz has announced that licensing agreements with broadcasters and digital platforms representing more than 100 countries and territories worldwide are in place for the Oct. 31 premiere of original series “Ash vs. Evil Dead.”
Capitalizing on the strong fan and distributor interest in the new series based on the classic “Evil Dead” horror films, Starz has constructed these deals to allow for the first same-day global premiere at the premium network. Starz had announced the Oct. 31 premiere date at Comic-Con in July.
Among the worldwide broadcasters and digital providers offering “Ash vs. Evil Dead” on Oct. 31 are Amedia (Russia), C More (Scandinavia), FOX Action on Fox+ Premium service/FOX Latin America Channels (Latin America/Brazil), SKY TV (New Zealand), Starz Play Arabia (Middle East/North Africa) and Super Channel (Canada).
Michael Thornton, Chief Revenue Officer at Starz, added in a statement: “Fans of ‘The Evil Dead’ have spoken with great passion and interest around the world, sparking high buyer demand for ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead.’ We are delighted to be able to provide flexibility to many of the key buyers serviced by Starz Worldwide Distribution and Starz Digital, and thus allow for a wave of local ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead’ worldwide premieres on the ‘groovy’ date of October 31.”
The cast of “Ash vs. Evil Dead” is led by Bruce Campbell, reprising his role of Ash Williams, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. Rounding out the cast are Lucy Lawless as the mysterious Ruby; Ray Santiago as Pablo Simon Bolivar, an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash’s loyal sidekick; Dana DeLorenzo as moody wild child Maxwell; and Jill Marie Jones as Amanda Fisher, a disgraced trooper set to find Ash and prove his responsibility in the grisly murder of her partner.
