The launch of the third-generation iPad on Friday broke AT&T’s single-day sales and activations record for a new iPad model, the carrier has announced. Like Apple, though, AT&T has declined to release specific numbers. The other official US iPad carrier, Verizon, has yet to make any sort of statement.
The third-gen iPad is the first to natively support LTE 4G. In the US though separate models are needed for AT&T and Verizon LTE bands, and the latter carrier has a more extensive LTE network. Verizon could potentially score a sales advantage as a result. When on 3G, however, the iPad has better performance on AT&T’s network, which may mitigate some worries.
