AT&T today indicated it is prepared to settle with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission over allegations that it throttled users’ mobile data speeds without property informing them. AT&T advertised “unlimited” mobile data, but slowed users’ speeds once they crossed a certain threshold.
The FTC first sued AT&T over the matter in 2014, but that case was tossed. The FCC at one point levied a fine of $100 million against AT&T over the issue, though that fee was never collected as the appeal worked its way through the court. Earlier this year, the FTC case was reinstated.
“We have decided not to seek review by the Supreme Court, to focus instead on negotiating a fair resolution of the case with the Federal Trade Commission,” said AT&T spokesperson Mike Balmoris.
The FTC has not said what concessions AT&T might have to make.
