AT&T is gearing up to start selling the Jawbone Up personal behavior monitoring system. The Up couples a wristband with an iPhone app. The carrier now has a placeholder page dedicated to the Up, with a “coming soon” banner. The site also teases viewers with a video.
The Up wrist sensor continuously tracks movement and monitors both diet as well as sleep patterns. Its iOS app collects the data over Bluetooth.
The wristband keeps a record of steps taken, distance traveled, pace, intensity, and calories burned. It can be programmed to send an alert when the wearer has been been sitting around or been a couch potato too long. For eating, the Up reminds a user to take a photo and then asks them how they
feel after each meal. It then uses the responses to identify and discover what foods are most beneficial. For sleeping, the wristband tracks everything about sleep: hours slept, time to fall asleep, sleep phases, waking moments, and overall sleep quality. The app can then awaken the user at the best moment in their natural sleep cycle.
The app even provides a sharing component to help build a sense of community and motivation.
AT&T hasn’t provided pricing or any indication when the Up wristband and app will be available.
