AT&T announced on Monday that it will be selling the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 4G LTE for just $249 with a signed two year contract. Or, you can buy the tablet for $399 off contract and have the slate added to your AT&T shared data plan. According to the carrier, it is giving you a $100 price break for signing the two-year contract and the remaining $50 discount for buying the tablet from an AT&T store. This is a limited time offer, so you shouldn’t dilly-dally if you really want it. AT&T’s Chris Penrose, the carrier’s Senior VP of emerging devices, might have hinted that the tablet will be made available to other mobile operators when he said that AT&T is the first carrier to connect the Amazon Kindle tablet to its 4G LTE network.

The Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 4G LTE offers an 8.9 inch LCD screen with resolution of 1920 x 1200, which works out to a pixel density of 254ppi. That compares with the 264ppi on the fourth-generation Apple iPad, which is considered to have a Retina display. A dual-core 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4470 processor is under the hood with a PowerVR SGX544 GPU. There is 1GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage. The native storage cannot be expanded since there is no microSD slot on board. A 1.3MP front-facing camera is the only camera on the tablet, and Android 4.0 is installed.
