Avengers: Age of Ultron Set to Pass $1 Billion at Global Box Office Today

Today, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron will cross the $1 billion mark in its 24th day of global release. It is Marvel Studios’ third billion-dollar film, alongside Marvel’s The Avengers and Iron Man 3, and the eighth Disney release to surpass this threshold. As early as today, Avengers: Age of Ultron will become the highest-grossing film of 2015 domestically, and it is already the second-biggest movie of the year internationally and globally.

Avengers: Age of Ultron began opening internationally on April 22 and has grossed $990 million through May 14. The film’s top markets are South Korea ($76 million), China ($69 million), UK ($63 million), Mexico ($41 million), Brazil ($39 million), and Russia ($32 million). Highlights include:

  • #1 debut in every market
  • Biggest opening weekend ever in Brazil, Mexico, Hong Kong, Philippines, Ecuador, Bolivia; biggest Western debut ever in South Korea, Peru
  • May 12 debut of $34 million in China marked Disney/Marvel’s biggest opening day ever there and the highest non-weekend opening day ever

Avengers: Age of Ultron debuted May 1 in the U.S. and Canada with $191.3 million, the second-biggest opening weekend of all time, behind only Marvel’s The Avengers. The film has now grossed $333 million through May 14 and is one of only three films to surpass the $300 million mark within 10 days. The film opens in Japan on July 4.
