BBC America is giving itself over to a “Doctor Who Takeover” stunt during the week of Nov. 18 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Doctor’s debut. The program slate will lead into the Nov. 23 global telecast of the “Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor” anniversary special.
The week long stunt begins Nov. 18 with daily marathons of episodes featuring various lead actors in the “Doctor Who” role over the years. Also planned are prime time specials including “The Science of Doctor Who with Brian Cox,” “Doctor Who: Tales from the TARDIS” and “Doctor Who Explained,” plus a retrospective on Matt Smith, the most recent thesp to play the Doctor — a role that will be assumed next by Peter Capaldi.
On Nov. 22, BBC America will premiere “An Adventure in Space and Time,” a narrative pic chronicling the genesis of the series. Pic directed by Terry McDonough (‘Breaking Bad”) stars David Bradley, Jessica Raine, Sacha Dhawan and Brian Cox.
