Bethesda Softworks says the first-person shooter Prey 2 won’t hit stores this year, citing quality issues.
In a statement released Thursday, the video game publisher disputed rumors that the project from developers at Human Head Studios had been canceled.
“The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards,” says Bethesda in a statement. “We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want. We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule.”
Announced last year, Prey 2 is a sci-fi, first-person shooter starring Killian Samuels, an air marshal who has been kidnapped by aliens.
The sequel to 2006’s Prey represents a significant departure for the series, which originally focused on a Native American named Tommy trying to rescue his girlfriend.
Bethesda did not set a new release window for the game.
