BlackBerry today filed a patent infringement lawsuit against a start-up called Typo.
Typo, which was founded by Laurence Hallier and Ryan Seacrest, announced the pending availability of a keyboard accessory that attaches to the Apple iPhone. The accessory is meant to help iPhone owners type on their device. According to BlackBerry, Typo lifted its design from BlackBerry. “This is a blatant infringement against BlackBerry’s iconic keyboard, and we will vigorously protect our intellectual property against any company that attempts to copy our unique design,” said the company. BlackBerry contends that its physical keyboards are one of its market differentiators.
The lawsuit was filed in California.
