BlackBerry has paused its distribution of BlackBerry Messenger for the Android and iOS platforms.
The app, originally scheduled to be released this weekend, was leaked (for Android) just ahead of its official release. According to BlackBerry, the leaked version is causing problems and forced BlackBerry to cease offering the app. Customers who’ve already downloaded the iOS version will continue to be able to use it, but BlackBerry is going to disable the leaked version of BBM for Android.
BlackBerry said it will begin a staggered, country-by-country rollout of a new version of BBM for Android when it is ready, and will then also make the iOS version available once more. BBM is BlackBerry’s over-the-top messaging service.
