It seems that German automaker BMW has finally decided to join companies that support Apple CarPlay in their cars. As reported by Bimmperpost, at the end of 2016 at least two BMW models offer support system that allows use the most important functions of the iPhone from the screen carriage.
The information could not be confirmed by a list of official prices published in German language, which confirms that support carplay be enabled sometime during the second half of 2016, indicating that the function could get through an upcoming update .
According to the document, the software will be available at first with the BMW X5 and X6 M models with an LCD touch screen 10.25 inches. The price list also indicates that support will carplay with wireless, as the document refers to this tool as a “wireless and convenient use of the iPhone in your vehicle through Apple carplay”.
To use this wireless system is possible from the update of iOS 9, but so far most cars compatible with Apple carplay even require that there be a wired connection to an iPhone for the software to work. The display in the vehicles will be among the largest thus far seen for CarPlay at 10.25 inches.
Currently Apple carplay is available in some cars from major manufacturers such as Ford, Honda, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Kia, and the biggest rival BMW, Mercedes-Benz.
