Canon’s Cinema EOS C300 DSLR-grade pro video camera is now available for pre-order. The cinematography camera, which was launched in November, incorporates a Super 35mm-size CMOS sensor. The aim is to merge Canon’s still image quality with equipment tailored to full-scale movie production.
The camera is available with two different lens mount options. The C300 accepts Canon’s proprietary EF-series lenses, while the C300 PL takes industry standard PL lenses. Designed specifically for digital cinematography, the camera records 4:2:2 MPEG-2 video to dual CF cards at a native 1080p resolution. Viewing is through a four-inch, 1.23-megapixel LCD monitor. It can overlay a time code and output over HD-SDI for editing stations.
Priced at $15,999 for the body with either EF or PL lens mounts, the EOS C300 and EOS C300 PL will begin shipping after January 30.
