Sony Pictures Classics (via Yahoo!) has revealed the first trailer and poster for Truth, the directorial debut by noted screenwriter James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) starring Oscar winners Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine, Carol) and Robert Redford (All is Lost, Captain America: The Winter Soldier). Check out the Truth trailer below, and the new poster in the gallery!
The drama, based on Mary Mapes’ novel “Truth and Duty,” centers around the “Rathergate” created when the award-winning CBS News journalist Dan Rather (played by Redford) and Mapes, his producer (played by Blanchett), broke the story about U.S. President George W. Bush going AWOL from the National Guard for a year during the Vietnam War on 60 Minutes, shortly before the 2004 Presidential election. When it was discovered that they hadn’t properly authenticated the documents (which were forgeries), the ensuing scandal nearly took down CBS News, ruining Rather’s career and credibility in the process.
Truth co-stars Topher Grace, Elisabeth Moss and Dennis Quaid, and will receive a limited release in New York and L.A. on October 16 before expanding nationwide later.
