Activision and Infinity Ward have announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, this year’s entry in the gaming franchise which re-imagines the ‘Modern Warfare’ sub-series from the ground-up.
Launching globally October 25th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (via Battle.net), the action is set in a modern-day conflict where split-second decisions could affect the global balance of power. The new game features a “unified narrative experience and progression” across a single player story, a multiplayer playground, and new cooperative gameplay.
The company is aiming for players to play together across PC and console through cross-play support. The franchise is also eliminating the traditional season pass in an effort to “deliver more free maps and content as well as post-launch events to all players”.
The new ‘Modern Warfare’ also features a new engine claiming to deliver an immersive and photo-realistic experience. Features include a physically-based material system allowing for state of the art photogrammetry, a new hybrid tile-based streaming system, new PBR decal rendering system, world volumetric lighting, 4K HDR, DirectX Raytracing (PC) and more as well as a new GPU geometry pipeline.
