Starting today, YouTube TV subscribers have access to content from Cheddar. This includes the financial news channel and the new general news channel, Cheddar Big News. In a quote, YouTube TV’s director of product called Cheddar a “strong fit” for the platform. While Cheddar already runs its own YouTube channel, this will offer live feeds and on-demand programming from the media company’s finance and news channels.
“Cheddar’s emphasis on tech and media news coverage make it a strong fit for the millennial, tech-savvy audience that also loves YouTube TV,” YouTube TVs Christian Oestlien told Variety.
Variety also notes that Cheddar already provides live and on-demand programming to the Dish Network, Sling TV, Comcast X1, Amazon, Facebook, Spotify, Twitter and Twitch platforms. Having a partnership with YouTube TV adds another set of viewers to Cheddar’s bottom line.
Cheddar also plans to launch its Big News program on Sling TV and Philo in the latter half of this year.
Cheddar was founded in 2016 by Jon Steinberg, former president and COO of BuzzFeed. Last month the company announced $22 million in Series D financing, led by existing investor Raine Ventures. Other investors include John Malone’s Liberty Global, Goldman Sachs, Antenna Group, 7 Global Capital, Dentsu Ventures, AT&T, Amazon, Altice USA, the New York Stock Exchange, Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video, Comcast Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Ribbit Capital.
