On the heels of yesterday’s update which named several shooting locations for director Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World, MTV News sat down today to speak with leading man Chris Pratt (who also stars in this week’s The LEGO Movie), who dropped a few plot and character details about the June 12, 2015 release.
“What I liked about it is that it answers the question of, ‘Why would they do that?'” says when asked what drew him to the project. “How do you suspend disbelief to be like, ‘Oh, yes! Let’s make this mistake again! We haven’t learned our lesson about dinosaurs. We should definitely live with them and see how that works out!” After three tries, they answer the question really well through the script. Colin did a great job of writing it and justifying it. Kind of, in his own way, having fun with that so that anybody who goes in with that question will be really amused the way I was.”
Pratt also talked briefly about his character, comparing him to Sam Neill’s Dr. Alan Grant and Jeff Goldblum’s Dr. Ian Malcolm.
“He’s got a little of both [characters],” Pratt explains. “He’s got a little bit of the Goldblum cynicism, but also the Sam Neill excitement at the wonder and the biology of it all.”
The much-anticipated sequel is also set to star Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Jake Johnson, Nick Robinson and Irrfan Khan. It will be directed by Trevorrow from a draft of the screenplay he wrote with Derek Connolly. Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley are producing.
