Cobie Smulders will be playing Robin on “How I Met Your Mother” for another year, but there’s a chance that she might end up another show as well: ABC’s “S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Smulders played S.H.I.E.L.D. operative Maria Hill in “The Avengers” last year. ABC’s pilot picks up after the events of the movie while following the non-superhero employees of the agency. She says there’s a chance she could make an appearance on the show, if it’s picked up for the 2013-14 season. “The commitments to [‘How I Met Your Mother’] don’t affect it,” Smulders tells I Am Rogue. “I can’t really say, but there are definite talks about it.”
“S.H.I.E.L.D.,” which “Avengers” director Joss Whedon is co-writing and directing, also stars Clark Gregg — returned from the presumed dead as Agent Coulson — and Ming-Na Wen (“ER,” “Nashville”). It’s being filmed ahead of the usual pilot cycle and, considering the Disney-Marvel business partnership, is probably a pretty strong contender to make next season’s schedule.
In the mean time Smulders will play Maria Hill again in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” which is due for release in April 2014.
