Feral Interactive has ported over Codemasters’ well-regarded off-road racing game, Colin McRae: DiRT 2 to the Mac and is accepting pre-orders for the game’s release, which comes on Thursday, July 21st. Utilizing nine locations around the world and a bevy of officially-licensed rally cars and other off-road vehicles, the game puts players behind the wheel with exceptional graphics and dynamic handling.
Players can compete in individual races or accept the challenge of “career mode,” racing in environments such as muddy Malaysian rainforests or the dry deserts of Morocco. The game features eight different racing disciplines and a variety of styles, including three ESPN X Games events. Players can experience multi-car and solo races as well as competitive online games.
DiRT 2 also features a “Flashback” mode where players can relive the last few seconds of their drive and perhaps correct mistakes that ended the race prematurely. All vehicles can be set for the user’s experience level and preferred style, as well as a chosen level of difficulty. Vehicle options include the Mitsubishi EVO X, the Subaru Impreza STI and many other options.
The game is now available for pre-order, and will cost $40. Users can order directly from Feral Interactive’s website or download the game from the Mac App Store or other digital partner sites. DiRT 2 requires an Intel Mac at least 1.4GHz or faster with at least 2GB of RAM and running Mac OS X 10.6.7 or later. The Mac must have at least a 128MB discrete graphics card, so the NVidia 7xxx series or the Intel GMA series chipsets are not supported.
