John Silver

Today we’re are very lucky to speak with Luke Arnold, who plays the pirate John Silver on Starz’ Black Sails.  Now of course we talk about the upcoming season which will premiere on Saturday, January 24th at 9pm ET/PT. (If we didn’t, the Starz press people would make me walk the plank)

What makes this interview different from most TV show plugs is that we talk about one of Luke’s great passions, video games. Some of his favorites include the Metal Gear Solid series, Assassins Creed Black Flag, Bioshock, Fallout 3, Skyrim, Rust, Gone Home and The Binding of Isaac.  In fact, he plays Call of Duty against fellow “Black Sails” cast members Zach McGowan, Tom Hopper and Toby Schmitz on their downtime from the set.

Don’t worry if you are not a gamer, we also find time to talk about his work behind the camera and in post production. Even what tools he likes to use!  If you listen to the end you will learn what video game from his youth got him ready for his role as pirate and what tune you should sing to him at the next San Diego Comic-Con panel.

About Black Sails

Black Sails is set on New Providence Island and a prequel roughly set two decade before the events in Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel Treasure Island.

In 1715, West Indies, the pirates of New Providence Island threaten maritime trade in the region. The laws of every civilized nation declare them hostis humani generis; enemies of all mankind. In response, the pirates adhere to a doctrine of their own….war against the world.

Season 2 begins where we left off—The Walrus crew is stranded, with an army of Spanish soldiers standing between them and the precious Urca gold. And with their crimes against their brethren no longer a secret, Flint and Silver must join forces in a desperate bid for survival. Meanwhile, Eleanor Guthrie struggles to maintain her grip on Nassau, as a new breed of pirate arrives in the form of Ned Low, a man for whom violence isn’t just a tool … it’s a past time.

Again the new season premieres Saturday, January 24th at 9 pm ET/PT on Starz. The series will continue to air through the end of March.

Watch all of Season 1 any time on STARZ Play.
