Netflix has released a new trailer for their next original series, this one wholly original like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, not “original” like Derek, acquired with a partnership.
The budget for the show is rumored to be around $90M, which is high for a TV show, and means that Netflix will likely have high expectations for the series to succeed. Problem is, no one really even knows what constitutes as success at Netflix, as they share literally none of their viewing data, even with their own casts. If they like a show they renew it before it even airs, as has happened with Orange is the New Black and House of Cards.
The show will take Marco Polo to 13th century China where he crossed paths with famous historical figures such as Kublai Khan. Polo is being played by Lorenzo Richelmy, an Italian actor who has been in nothing you’ve ever heard of before. The new trailer introduces us to the world which is full of mystery, violence and sex, it seems, channeling a bit of Game of Thrones mixed with Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
