Dell Has announced a three-model expansion to its Precision mobile workstation lineup—the M4700, the M6700, and the specialty Covet model. All three models are intended for desktop replacements, and are certified for many of the major vertical-market applications for CAD/CAM and engineering.

The 15.6-inch M4700 offers a choice between a 1366×768 display and a 1920×1080 HD panel. The display is driven by either an AMD FirePro M4000 with 1GB of GDDR5 RAM, a 2GB NVIDIA Quadro K1000M, or a 2GB K2000M. Four DIMM slots provide expansion up to 32GB of 1600MHz RAM, or 16GB of 1866MHz memory. The machine has support for three storage devices, with one 2.5-inch bay, one optical drive bay with optional 2.5-inch drive caddy, and one solid-state Mini-Card slot. Integrated Gigabit Ethernet is provided, with an assortment of 802.11n and HSPA+ or HSPA-EVDO options available. Connections include two USB 2.0 ports, an eSATA/USB 2.0 combination port, two USB 3.0 ports, a 10-in-1 media card reader, a SmartCard reader, a 54mm ExpressCard slot, one FireWire port, a VGA port, one HDMI port, and one DisplayPort. Customers can choose between Ivy Bridge Core i5 and i7 processors, up to the Core i7 extreme edition. The M4700 starts at $1,649 and is available today.

The basic 17.3-inch M6700 integrates a 1600×900 display, with three upgrade options for 1920×1080 resolution. Graphics options include the M6000 Mobility Pro with 2GB of GDDR5 RAM, the 2GB NVIDIA Quadro K3000M, the 4GB K4000M, and the 4GB K5000M. NVIDIA 3D Vision Pro technology represents another upgrade option, combining active-shutter glasses, an integrated RF communication hub, and software for use with professional applications like CAD, CAM, and life sciences. The M6700 supports four storage devices, with two 2.5-inch drive bays, an optical bay with optional 2.5-inch drive caddy, and a solid-state Mini-Card slot. Four DIMM slots provide expansion for up to 32GB of 1600MHz RAM, or 16GB of 1866MHz memory. Integrated Gigabit Ethernet is included, with an assortment of 802.11n and HSPA+ or HSPA-EVDO options available. All included ports and processor options are the same as the M4700. The M6700 line begins at $2,199 and is also available today.

The M6700 Crave model in red has faster processors than the M4700 or M6700, and boasts an edge-to-edge 17.3-inch display. All ports and graphical options match the M6700. When all models are available for the Crave, retail price begins at $3579. Some high-end models of the Crave are immediately available.
