Dell World is in full swing and kicked off with several product partnership announcements and product updates. Along with a complete OptiPlex lineup upgrade (to Intel Skylake processors), Dell announced several new key features for its OptiPlex all-in-one (AIO) offerings.
OptiPlex AIO machines are available in 3000 and 7000 series configurations. The OptiPlex 22 3240 offers up to a 6th generation Intel Core i5 (Skylake) quad-core processor, in addition to dual-core Celeron, Pentium and Core i3 processors that run on the H110 chipset. The OptiPlex 24 7440 can sport 6th generation Core i5 and i7 quad-core chips, or a dual-core i3 processor, and this model sports a more feature-rich platform on the Q170 chipset.
Both products offer up to 16 GB of RAM using up to two DIMM slots; however, 3000 series OptiPlex AIOs use DDR3 SDRAM while 7000 series models sport DDR4 modules. It’s interesting to note that both options have a rated speed of 2133 MHz, so memory performance should be comparable between the two models (although the 7000 series using DDR4 will obviously draw less power).
Storage options for the OptiPlex 3240 include up to a 1 TB HDD or SSHD, but can also sport a SATA III SSD. The 7440 once again offers more robust configurations, offering up to 2 TB HDD and SSHD drives, and SATA or PCIe SSDs.
Perhaps the most important feature of an AIO is its display. The OptiPlex 3240 sports a 21.5-inch IPS panel at a resolution of 1920 x 1080. The 7440 once again ups the ante, offering a 23.8-inch IPS display that can come in 1080p or 4K resolutions, which is a first for Dell OptiPlex AIOs. Both models also have optional capacitive touchscreens.
In addition, each display can be driven by the onboard Intel HD 520 integrated graphics or an optional graphics card. The 7440 offers an AMD Radeon R7 A370 2 GB graphics card, while the 3240 can sport a 2 GB AMD Radeon R7 360.
The OptiPlex AIO lineup can optionally feature 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.1 wireless connectivity, in addition to a media card reader or optical drive. Also, there are three different stands to choose from, giving a more personal look and offering great functionality for your own workspace needs. Optional security features include a Trusted Platform Module (TPM 1.2, upgradable to TPM 2.0 with a firmware update) and Dell’s broad catalog of security-centric software suites.
Dell seems to make a strong case that OptiPlex AIOs can offer the same class of performance as its tower PCs, with powerful processing and storage options, robust features, and up to 4K displays. Throw in Dell’s proprietary security software, and you have an AIO that is truly meant for business-class productivity and performance.
